Hats Are A Girls Best Friend

I have always loved hats. They suit me well. My sister has a great fedora she wears often. Men go crazy for it. Friday night we walked to Emporio to grab a pizza, glass of red and some good girl talk. As we walked a man exclaimed, "I love your hat!" Later, while standing at the bar another man complimented the hat. It was a smooth way to enter into a conversation. The hat was the entre-a conversation piece.

I wore my favorite hat Sunday afternoon. A relic from a past life but my absolute favorite hat in the world. A sure fire attention getter but mostly I love it because no matter how cold it gets, it always keeps you safe and warm. There are cheap versions all over Soho from street vendors. I thought I had lost it but after two days of desperate searching I finally found it. The elation literally made me feel less sick! I can't wait to go skiing so I finally have a reason to buckle the chin strap.

A few of my other favorite hats...

voulez-vous coucher avec moi?

Who can resist the allure of a french woman? Subtle, chic, sexual but with the sentimentality of a man. I have always admired french women for these reasons most especially Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel. Watching the film today, Coco Avant Chanel, I picked up a few ideas I'd like to try and remembered what for me is the MOST iconic Coco look-the sailing shirt.

When I was in Paris, earlier this year, I visited the best vintage shops in the Marais. I arrived at Coiffure on Rue des Rosiers where I found the greatest (current) treasure of my wardrobe. Every girl in Paris, and boy for that matter, was fighting for these horizontal stripe tops. I found the perfect one and for just 5 euro. The stripes are faded in front from all the wear and washing. It's loose fitting, the sleeves always fall out of roll and it reveals nothing. That's what makes it so sexy. That and it is identical to Coco's.

The next day I wore it to ride bikes around the city. We stopped at a light where a car waited alongside. Two men began pointing and smiling at me. One began to roll down the window when suddenly the light changed. Before I took off I heard him call out to me. He spoke French; perhaps he thought I was french? And isn't that the greatest compliment of all? Well for me it is...

Words from Karl

Karl Lagerfeld once said, "Women should dress for themselves and the man in your life." I have always dressed for me- right or wrong. But lately I have come to find a man's opinion to be quite useful. Not because we should just aim to mindlessly please men but because if you succeed in pleasing a man, to an extent where he will actually tell you so, you have undoubtedly arrived at a haute home run. Bottom line you know you look good. So pay attention next time you get a compliment. And I'll share mine with you.

I watched a television show the other night where women were trying on lingerie at La Perla. I noticed how beautiful the pieces were and wondered why I've always been so intimidated by lingerie. For a women who cares so much about her outerwear isn't it time to pay a bit more to the underwear? Cut to Kiki De Montparnasse on Greene St. The perfect boudoir style shop with dark walls and subtle lighting, luxurious dressing rooms, gold rolling racks filled with delicate lace pieces sure to please any man or women. I grabbed the Ingenue Demi bra, which I was sure would disappoint. I think of lingerie from these shops for show not function. But it is the PERFECT bra; small and delicate but able to fit a full cup. I imagined the black Chantilly lace visibly shown through my favorite outfits. It is available in antique nude, black and pop emerald and is a mere $225. I cannot stop thinking about it and I suspect no man could either.
